The Vestry is elected by the congregation to serve as the legal representatives of the St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and Parish. The Vestry’s basic responsibilities are to serve the mission of St. Alban’s in word and deed, select the Rector, ensure effective organization and planning, and to manage resources and finances. The presiding officer is usually the Rector.

Annually, the Vestry elects a Senior Warden and a Junior Warden. The Senior Warden leads the parish between Rectors and is an essential support person for the Rector at all times. The Junior Warden is a key team leader who also participates in executive decision making and this year has responsibility for Church property and buildings. To ensure continuity, the Vestry consists of nine members elected in groups of 3 for 3-year terms. Members are eligible for re-election to one additional 3-year term.

Vestry membership is recognized as an important vehicle for meaningful engagement with the church, and more than half of the congregation are former Vestry members. A solid cross-section of St. Alban’s membership in terms of gender and age is the goal of Vestry representation. The Vestry meets monthly and holds special meetings whenever needed. Voting on pressing issues also occurs via email.

Vestry meetings begin with prayers and scripture or written reflection shared by individual members on a rotating basis. For the past three years, the Vestry has also undertaken a Prayer Project to deepen the meaning of parish stewardship, adding a spiritual dimension to administrative responsibilities. The vestry distributes the complete roster of the congregation among vestry members who pray for those people on a regular basis. Actively praying for the well being of all parishioners in an ongoing manner throughout the year strengthens our parish family.
